Minor imperfections that do not impair functionality, such as scratches, indentations, stains, and small spots, are permissible. The edges are precisely cut, ensuring the end faces are devoid of delamination and cracks.

The epoxy resin and curing agent react through a direct addition or ring-opening polymerization of an epoxy group in a resin molecule, without releasing water or volatile by-products. This results in remarkably low shrinkage (below 2%) during curing, in contrast to unsaturated polyester and phenolic resins.
